With my Eldest starting High School next year, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how hard high school can be on kids. How one person’s comment or opinion can completely crush you as a person and make you stop chasing those dreams. Every single one of us has a sparkle. That special something that makes us who we are — unique, brilliant, and irreplaceable. But sometimes, life throws curveballs that dim that light. Whether you’re a young girl navigating school, a teen finding your identity, a young adult chasing dreams, or a woman juggling it all, there’s one truth to hold onto: your sparkle matters. Let’s talk about finding your sparkle and why embracing your unique self is the most powerful thing you can do.
The world is full of voices telling us how we should look, act, or dream. But here’s the secret: the most extraordinary people in the world don’t follow the crowd. They listen to their own inner voice. Think about some of the most inspiring women in history—Rosa Parks, Malala Yousafzai, or our own Aussie legend, Cathy Freeman. They didn’t try to fit into a mould. They let their uniqueness shine. So why shouldn’t you?
Take a moment today to think about what makes you, you. Is it your creativity? Your ability to make people laugh? Your determination? Write it down, own it, and celebrate it.
Let’s be honest, one of the hardest things about being yourself is worrying about what others might think. But here’s the truth: people who truly care about you will celebrate your sparkle. Those who don’t? They’re not your people.
When you find yourself hesitating, remember this: it’s not your job to dim your light to make others comfortable. If anything, your courage to shine bright might just inspire someone else to do the same. Finding your sparkle means standing tall even when it feels scary.
Dreams don’t come easy, but they’re worth every ounce of effort. Whether you’re dreaming of becoming a scientist, starting a business, or travelling the world, it all starts with belief in yourself. Keep learning, stay curious, and don’t let setbacks define you. Failure is just a stepping stone to success.

You’ve got this. Never forget: the world needs your sparkle.
